At the beginning of April, the 12th European Forum on the rights of the child was organized by the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium.
As this year marks the 30th anniversary of the UN Convention on the rights of the child, the aim of the Forum was to look at where Europe stands in the promotion and protection of the rights of the child and to discuss the main challenges. The Living Together Initiative, co-lead between Rania Ali, a young Syrian journalist living in Austria and Terre des hommes (Tdh) was invited to attend the event and present the initiative at the forum.
Rania Ali, present the initiative during the second day of the forum part of the Protection of Children in MIgration workshop. Our initiative was presented in this event as part of durable solutions on integration in European societies.
This event hosted over 280 people from different European Institutions, EU member states representatives, NGO representative, and other stakeholders. It was a great opportunity for us to launch the initiative at this European level.
During the participation at this forum, our co-lead had the chance to meet in person with Ms. Vera Jourova, the EU commissioner for Justice, Consumer and Gender Equality. During their meeting she had the chance to describe what our initiative stands for.
